To ensure safe
and accurate delivery of your trash receptacle, trash containers
cannot be ordered until the home is occupied. To expedite
this process, order your receptacle as soon after closing
as possible. Your trash can will be delivered to your home.
After its delivery, the City holds you responsible for
its safety. Trash cans are required to be placed out the
evening before trash pick-up and to be stored inside no
later than 12 hours after trash pickup.
To find information concerning trash and bulk pick up dates contact the
Department of Public Works at 870-5100 to find out the schedule in your
area. You can take bulk items to the City of Detroit Southfield Yard
located at 12255 Southfield Road, between Plymouth and Schoolcraft roads.
The yard is usually open on the second and fourth Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 3
p.m. The Southfield Yard is open to Detroit residents. The limit is one
load per household each Saturday (not to exceed 500 lbs.). No garbage,
commercial dumping, trees or tree stumps will be accepted.
